Testimonials:
"Pam was my doula for 2 of my babies and I couldn't have been more pleased. She has a vast knowledge of all birth-related things, and was there when I needed her most. As a doula and childbirth educator myself, I've had the privilege to partner with Pam for several births. All of our clients have been so very pleased with Pam's gentle demeanor, and it's been great to work with someone so reliable. I can't recommend her enough!" -Rebecca
"I wouldn't survive my 18-hour long labor without Pam's nonstop support. Together with my husband, Pam offered gentle massage and encouragement in soft voice to help ease my pain during contractions. She breathed with me during every cycle and reminded me to relax and save the energy for the next. Everything went well and fast, and just when I thought I was going to have a fairly smooth labor, I stopped progressing for hours after I reached 7 centimeters, and when the doctor suggested pitocin, Pam gave me the strength and confidence that we can do it on our own without medication. She then helped me use various tools, such as rocking chair or birthing ball, to help me progress, and within one hour, I reached 9. My baby was soon born very healthy and alert, and I was able to breastfeed right away. My husband also appreciates very much Pam's support to him because he has someone to take turn with when he was really tired near the end. Pam helped us reach our dream to deliver all naturally - no epidural, no pitocin, no IVs - as we have always wanted." Thank yo so much, Pam!! - Naichi, Perry, and Wesley
"We could not have been more pleased with Pam Gaw's doula services. She is an extraordinary birth coach, who combines deep compassion and support for the laboring mother with a strong command of the science and techniques of modern birthing. She went above and beyond in helping us to have the natural childbirth we wanted to have, we give her our highest possible recommendation." - Pam and Justin, Grafton, MA.
"It was so helpful to have Pam as my doula. She was compassionate, accommodating, and understood exactly what I needed at each stage of labor and afterward. Pam was also able to suggest techniques for management of discomfort that I wouldn't have thought to ask for. And when we were overwhelmed with emotion enjoying our new baby, she took care of practical details like getting us food and packing our belongings. I wouldn't give birth at a hospital without a doula, and I can wholeheartedly recommend Pam." Lindsay and Robert P.
"Choosing a doula can be a difficult task- afterall this is a person who will see you through one of the most intense and intimate moments of your life! When I first met Pam, I was concerned that I was too bossy and brash for her quiet persona- however as we began working together during my second trimester, i realized that she was just the kind of addition i needed for my birth team.
As soon as we asked Pam to join us in this event, she got right to work researching and providing me with resources on any concerns that i sent her way. She was always available by both email and phone for my many questions and delivered responses quickly and reassurringly. She never treated any concern as silly or too small. She even followed up with me if she had not heard from me in a bit; she never let a week go by without at least an email. When i reached 34 weeks we met again at my home and the three of us (Pam, my partner and myself) sat around the dining table working out possible scenarios of the upcoming birth. I deeply appreciated how encouraging she was of our choices, but also how eager she was able to offer sound options when Nate and I were at a crossroads. Her input was invaluable, and again i felt completely supported- even though the birth was 6 weeks coming! But for all of this pre-labor work, Pam really proved herself a crucial member of our birth family when the time really mattered! When I went into labor, Pam came to our house to help us pace through the early hours at home- she even stuck around when my labor slowed a bit and i needed to take a nap. When labor returned again she was at my side and did not leave until our son was born nearly 15 hours later! She worked tirelessly the entire time- bringing me water, applying much needed counter pressure, helping me through contractions in the shower, suggesting new positions at crucial moments, and offering much needed verbal support. I felt that each action was delivered with compassion and sincerity; her steady calm was a much needed attribute! She also worked effortlessly with the nursing staff, advocating for my birth plan, and translating any questions that they had regarding my hopes for this labor. Her presence was also a god-send for my partner, who had been up with me the entire night previously and was exhausted himself. He told me that working with Pam gave him such confidence during the birth, especially when i entered the most intense parts of labor and was less communicative. At last, as my son was born, she was there to help establish immediate bonding, as well as encourage the first nursing...and to take pictures to boot! Looking back on the entire experience, I am certain that Pam was a crucial player in our successful natural birth. Her deep knowledge of laboring strategies, and her steadfast compassionate spirit make her an ideal addition to any birth team!" -Laura and Nate-Boston, MA.
"It is no coincidence that I had the childbirth I had hoped for and that Pam was our doula. I wanted a natural childbirth but I was also not opposed to medication if I found it to be more painful than I anticipated. Basically, I went into the experience with an open mind and knew I needed to be flexible to meet any unforeseen challenges. However, I truly believe that having Pam alongside my husband and me during this special time directly influenced our experience. Pam was supportive in a reserved way. Knowing my birth plan, she guided me through a fast-moving labor. She held my hand and joined me in the little mantras that I found so helpful during those most intense moments. Pam didn't leave my side when my husband accompanied my son to the NICU for a common breathing problem. Instead of feeling alone and distraught without my newborn son and husband, I was able to get some rest in Pam's company. I am so thankful we chose Pam as our doula. I was looking for someone to support my decisions, whether that involved medication or not, to support my husband during the long hours of labor, and to help guide me toward the goal I most wished to accomplish -- to bring my son into the world in the safest, most peaceful way possible. We were successful in achieving a natural childbirth and it was an experience of which I am very proud." -Jackie
